Joe finally got his wish: a motorcycle. Too bad after he bought the thing he realized it was a moped.
While I fully supported whatever mode of transportation he wanted to get for the summer (obviously watching for "used" and "deals", though), Joe settled on a moped. It seemed like the easiest choice since he wouldn't need to go get a special license (like a motorcycle would), and don't pay for insurance, registration, or a title. By the time those things all would've been done on a motorcycle, he probably would've waited half the summer. We bought this the day after we arrived here; the owner bought it brand new last fall and it only had 300-some miles on it. Seemed like a good deal! He's getting about 60 miles to the gallon on this baby.
It was funny when he had to register for parking at work. The guard asked for his license plate number: "Doesn't have one..." How about the make and model? "Don't know, it's some cheap Japanese moped company I think". Haha...

Really you don't have to register it or get a license plate? Huh, I thought just about anything with a motor on it that traveled on city streets needed that stuff. Good find, you look like a cross between James Bond and Get Smart. When we meet back at ND we'll have to go on a road trip to show off our hogs.
Moped laws vary by state, but at least here in NC and in WI they classify it as a motor bicycle & just require you use a helmet, stay off highways, and you usually have to be at least 14. Indiana is actually different, they do require insurance coverage. But we're selling it here, we have no way to take it back to IN even if he wanted to (sorry, no cool road trips alongside your Kawasaki). I should also clarify that some mopeds with more powerful engines ARE under motorcycle laws- but most aren't that way.
